Live to fight another day

10 September 2009

Well things at work are tough at the moment so i decided to take some days off "get some stress out" played some last night however my head wasnt right and i ended up -$62.01 down played a mix of game types 36 in all

After a good nights sleep, bit of breakfast loving ham on toast at the minute

Morning Session

Well things didnt start of to plan a lame 7 cashes out of 26 for -$96.80 ($138.69 down for the month) twice on the bubble i lost pre flop all ins KK>77 & 99>22 the first one a classic river jobby, hopefully the afternoon will be better

Started to play a lot of good regs deZZed, MikeBing1, Tobjbaby_KK, and two guys i speak a lot too PhiAlphaMTSU, quiquick which makes table selection more important then ever

Atfernoon Session

Just when you didnt think it could get any worse booom down swing time baby!I gonna be a rough few days

5.20pm - total so far is horrible reading 42 played -$254.40 to lose 19 buy ins is tough to take, Its one of them days where you cant win a flip my BR cant take much more of this...my move down point is $800 safe to say we are a little off that yet.

I seen this on BALLCUPs blog of thought it is sound advice

"Don't ever take winning money at poker for granted; don't ever forget the subtletees that make you a winning player, don't ever come to the conclusion that you have the game mastered, and don't ever become a robot"

Evening/Night Session

Well this session started well first set 6/8 cashes 3 1st and 3 2nds for $112

22.35pm - After another set i went to watch the film "the business" with my girlfriend, i needed a break.

Round up so far was 58 played -$145.60 hopefully later ons event cant push that towards profit, i think i need to pick my stops a little more on the bubble 100/420 this month i have bubbled...tells its own story

I finshed the night off with 3 DONs $20.80 so i thought however after slighlty tilting deep into the early hours i loaded up some $31.60 hyper turbos which from 8 games at $31.6 made a nice profit of $169 and even a heads up, i sharkscoped this guy beofre hand there was a nice fish bowl there so thought why not for $23

End profit. -$99.18 (-$141.07) overall this month after 446 games

Total VPPs 2380

Total FPPs 18,416.35

Summary

Overal not been a good day thats 3 days straight that i have been down for the day and 5/8 days overall hopefully we can bring so + days this week

Up down, up down, up ....DOWN

8 September 2009

Long day at work today, come home thought about going for a run...then thought nahhhh even though i have a half marathon in 5 weeks, best get my ass in gear.....i've told myself tomorrow is the day i start training we will see....!!

Well i started out at the tables today and the first set was awful, horrible beats and of course my play sucked, my first set after work is always a shocker (think i just need a good rest after work to be honest) $13 6 max on stars 8 tables up 1 cash.........

straight into another set and its a good one break even for the night......the night carried on like this however overal the night ended in a negative, not to worry still up for the month.

So far this month is pretty much break even....last month was a profit of $567.16 over 947 games so see what the new plan of 1.6k games brings

Total games played this session 71

End profit. -$59 (Overal $20.12+ this month after 326 games)

Total VPPs 1711 (5789 to go)

Total FPPs 17078.35 (Need 26k for new monitor 22" samsung looks sweeeeet)

I am slightly behind target to get platinum however i have next week off so should catch up......also once i move from 8 to 10 tables should make that gap up (49 games behind)

Sleep now thank god 2.30am

Get a grip, Now i have a plan

7 September 2009

After crying like a little boy after yet another failed attempt for the big time I studied hard a finally realised I had no bankroll management at all I designed a spreadsheet and was determined to set goals and stick to it….also retire from Hyper sats…….

Before this next part in my life my girlfriend was on my back and also my family…..my girlfriend for time reasons and my family for the “you have a gambling problem” speech , I worked things out with my girlfriend but there was no getting through to my family…… they more than likely still think this

However even though I was still up overall and showing signs of a winning player I wanted to prove to myself that I had what it takes, I deposited £150 ($250) I would play $6.50 6 max turbos until I reached $800 for 60Buy ins for $13s after 4 weeks over 4 multi tabelring I reached my first goal with 500 games at 18 ROI ( I know the sample isn’t great but I was showing roughly 6% at $25s over 2.5k games , so believe 15-18% at the 6.50s is realistic.. I am current in the $13s with a roll of around $1,500 and 3 months into my aim which is

$250 Start

$800 13s (currently 8 taberling) (20k FPPs)

$2000 25s (40k FPPS)

$4000 39s (60k FPPS)

Also to be platinum by end of this month works out 375 games per week (bracketed is the amount of FPPs I would earn if platinum 1.6k games per month)

My plan is at the end of the year playing or very close to playing the 39s, I am building $215s MTT tickets through the steps programme, I have 2 already and 5 tickets (total) for steps 2 & 3 ( all started off in step 1 for $7.50 each)

As long as my ROI is acceptable I will continue to play the 39s and aim for supernova

I also have won an EPT London Starter Package for an event on the 18th September £330 freezeout …

I will be posting nearly daily updates on how i'm getting on any other info wanted please let me know

Thanks for reading

The big break and big lows

7 September 2009

I made sure I had an earlier night on the Saturday, chilled out pretty much through the day and was so excited to sit down in the million, I played like a nit the whole tourney and once the bubble had burst I felt like I had achieved something great ( my mistake was I kept looking at the prize board instead of focusing on my game I ended up busting in the 500s for just over $1,000 I was made up.

I carried on with the sit n goes and shootouts and yet again claimed a Sunday million cash the very next time I played it, just over a min cash for around $550 . the 3rd time I played I felt the pain of set over set for the first time, it really did hurt especially as I got it all in ahead but hey meh

My bankroll was sitting at around 2k I withdrew around 1k and over the next year slowly went bust, it felt like the end of the world.

My mistake was never looking for the reasons why I did go bust. I despotised a few times more of $50 and went bust so many times I felt like I could get a break… with no money til payday and the desire to play poker once again I found the VIP tourneys 100FPPs for the weekly 30k I played for around 4-5 hrs before cashing for $12 I then went to play $3.50(I think its $3.50 maybe $3.25)  6 max built to around $50, moved up to $6.50 I soon was at $200 and started playing $25 6max and was building a nice roll ( see how I didn’t have any bankroll management) once again got a Sunday million ticket and once again cashed, biggest one yet 199th for $1,600, I was back baby within 4 months my roll was sitting at $5,600 playing mostly $25 6max and a few Hyper turbo sat thrown in ($22, $31, 44$, $86, $128, & 1 or 2 $212s) I went to visit my girlfriend in Leeds (she was seeing her family for X mas) so I went up there to meet her I withdrew $1,500 (at this time the dollar was worth around £0.92 so lots of value) I broke even for much of Jan n Feb Feb again withdrew for personal reasons around $1,500 and again in March I withdrew around $800 for a new laptop as my “15.4 was doing my head in…

New laptop Acer Aspire “18.4 it was awesome with around 2k left of my roll, and stupidly only played $86 hyper sats for the sun million and after 3 months I was broke, I don’t know what it was but after I withdrew and seeing my balance come right down it had felt like id actually lost that money mentally, mix that and poor bank roll management and there’s only one way you are heading…..busto town!!

The beginning

7 September 2009

Hi Readers

I am going to start with a little about myself first

I starting getting into poker around 5 years ago whilst in the British Forces, a friend of mine (who had a gambling problem I should mention) was playing on William hill (Cash game I think) I didn’t know the rules however I thought I fancy a go so registered an account deposited around £20 and within 10 minutes was broke, still I felt the hook dig into my skin and over the next year it started wheeling me in.

After nearly 6 years in the forces I decided that I want a new direction in my life so left and headed back to Leicester, England got myself an apartment and started a job as an Systems analyst for a well know energy company.

After around 6 months I once again discovered William Hill poker, I wanted to play a few donkements (being a donk myself) so I deposited £50 a few times before my first tourney cash it was a first for roughly £600, I was made up and thought I had hit the big time...

I had no poker guidance from anyone (didn’t even read 2+2 at the time) so I withdrew all of the cash apart from £50, a few deposits later I took down another tourney for around £700 time, yet again I withdrew all but £50…….its at this point I noticed a site called “Pokerstars” so I signed up ….. I think overall I was maybe even or up around £100 from my time at William I never kept a record so that’s only a rough estimate. Sorry

Once on pokerstars I felt like a kid in a sweet shop all these game choices J I soon got hooked on 180 man sit n goes )and I was terrible at them, cant even remember cashing …….after around $400 down I decided that maybe Poker wasn’t for me and wins (As I didn’t have a lot of spare cash, living on my own with a mortgage) that I actually luck boxed my way to them 2 tourney

It was then I found a little website called 2+2 which changed my whole world I would read this every day for a good few weeks, Brought Dan Harrington on Hold Um vols 1,2 & 3, Super system and many more books ( I own around 30 at the minute) from here I was learning the importance of position, Hand selection, stack sizes, EV situations, ICM and many more ( I still didn’t know everything that will become clear later on) and decided to deposit $150 in April 08 under the name wontholdup I started out in 6 max Turbo sit n goes & some double shootouts for the Sunday million.

I had build my roll up around $30 before winning a seat for the Sunday million….

To be continued
